Telangana Launches 10-Day ‘Arrive Alive’ Road Safety Drive as CM Backs Auto-Debit of Traffic Fines

Police plan a tech-driven, uniform rollout targeting high-risk violations to curb fatalities.

  • The campaign was formally launched on January 12 in Hyderabad and will run statewide from January 13 to 24, excluding festival holidays.
  • Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy called for automatic deduction of challans from vehicle owners’ bank accounts and urged an end to fine discounts.
  • Enforcement priorities include helmet and seat-belt compliance, mobile use while driving, drunk and wrong-side driving, signal jumping, high-beam misuse and unsafe overtaking.
  • Implementation will be led by police from commissioners and district SPs down to village traffic safety committees, with broad participation from students, NGOs, corporates, media and public representatives.
  • Police cited approximately 27,000 annual accidents with about 7,500 deaths and identified 935 black spots, and the Chief Minister said an MoU with Google has been signed for traffic management.
