Telangana Declares Karreguttalu Hills Maoist-Free

The move signals a shift to ecotourism-focused development under tighter local security.

Overview

  • Telangana DGP B. Shivadhar Reddy, who visited the Karreguttalu hills on Tuesday, declared the border region free of Maoist influence.
  • He laid foundation stones in Pamunuru for a new police outpost and a coordination centre that will link police, CRPF, forest and revenue officials.
  • He said landmines and improvised explosive devices had been neutralised in the area and, after meeting troops at the CRPF 39th Battalion base, called for sustained joint policing.
  • Officials outlined plans to open the scenic forest to visitors, with road work advancing, including a 13-km Murmuru–Tadpala stretch now complete and a Pamunoor–Karreguttalu route under construction.
  • To support tribal households, police delivered an autorickshaw, a motorbike and a month of groceries to seven Pamunuru families, and inaugurated a women-led plant nursery at Moramuru.
