Telangana, Andhra Pradesh Log Lower Overall Crime in 2025 as District Trends Diverge

Police cite technology-led community policing as the key driver, with narcotics enforcement intensifying.

Overview

  • Telangana reported a 2.33% fall in total cases to 2,28,695, with murders, rapes, robberies and kidnappings down, cybercrime lower by about 3%, NDPS cases up to 2,542, and 509 CPI (Maoist) cadres surrendering, according to the DGP’s year-end review.
  • Andhra Pradesh recorded a 6.17% decline in registered crime to 1,03,397 cases, with fewer offences against women and extensive use of drones and other tools; cyber fraud losses saw ₹98 crore blocked and ₹3 crore refunded, police said.
  • Local outcomes varied sharply: Adilabad’s cases rose 63% and Asifabad’s by about 60%, Khammam registered a 9% rise with a 21% increase in crimes against women, and Nellore logged more FIRs despite declines in major crimes.
  • Several districts posted steep drops linked to tech and outreach: Chittoor down 26% with higher recoveries and Shakti teams, Anakapalli down 23% with expanded CCTV and AFIS use, Anantapur down 22.5%, NTR/Vijayawada down 21.66%, and Visakhapatnam city down about 12% with rape cases halved.
  • Enforcement drives intensified across NDPS and cyber offences, with major ganja seizures in Visakhapatnam, increased convictions in multiple districts, sizeable cyber fraud refunds in Visakhapatnam, Guntur and Nellore, and Telangana road crashes rising 5.68% even as fatalities declined.
