Teenagers Plead Not Guilty in TfL Cyberattack Case With Trial Set for 2026

Prosecutors cite a £39 million toll from the 2024 breach, which investigators attribute to the Scattered Spider group.

Overview

  • Thalha Jubair, 19, and Owen Flowers, 18, entered not guilty pleas at Southwark Crown Court to conspiring to commit unauthorised acts against TfL systems between 29 August and 6 September 2024.
  • A trial is scheduled for 8 June 2026 with a pre-trial review on 13 February, Judge Christopher Hehir told the court.
  • Prosecutors say the intrusion cost TfL £39 million and exposed customer details including names, contact information and Oyster refund data that contained bank details.
  • TfL reported no wider network shutdown but said it was forced to disable some services such as traffic cameras and Dial-a-Ride and could not process some payments.
  • The NCA links the incident to the Scattered Spider collective, while Flowers faces additional U.S. healthcare-related hacking charges and Jubair faces a separate RIPA charge over failing to disclose device passwords.
