Teenager Critically Injured as Lorry and Two Cars Crash on A1

Northumbria Police have finished on-scene enquiries and are asking the public for dashcam footage and witness accounts while recovery work keeps the road closed.

Overview

  • The collision, which happened on Wednesday, June 3, involved a lorry and two cars and left the lorry reported to have overturned across both carriageways of the A1.
  • Emergency crews treated five people at the scene before taking them to hospital with head and body injuries, and a teenage male occupant of a BMW remains in critical condition.
  • The A1 is closed both ways between the B1337 (Morpeth turn-off) and the A19 (Seaton Burn) with local diversions in place and heavy delays extending toward Kingston Park and Morpeth while recovery continues.
  • Northumbria Police are leading an active investigation, have completed collision enquiries at the scene, and have issued an appeal for witnesses and dashcam footage using reference NP-20260603-0750.
  • The closure is causing wide local disruption to journeys and hospitals are treating the injured; dashcam and witness accounts are likely to be crucial to establishing how the crash happened and what charges, if any, follow.
