Overview
- The Greenfield Academy pupil remains in a life-threatening condition after suffering injuries on railway tracks in Shildon on Wednesday morning.
- British Transport Police said officers were called at about 8am and confirmed the incident is not being treated as suspicious.
- The Great North Air Ambulance activated at 8:06, reached the scene at 8:15 with two doctors and a paramedic, worked with North East Ambulance crews, and flew the girl to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary.
- Trains between Darlington and Bishop Auckland were halted during the response and services resumed around 11am, according to Network Rail.
- Greenfield Academy said it is liaising with emergency services and is offering support to pupils and the girl’s family.
