Overview
- Two teacher aides were cut inside William Howard Taft High School in the Bronx just after 10:20 a.m. Monday and were taken to BronxCare Health System with injuries not considered life-threatening.
- Police identified a 17-year-old male student as the suspect who fled the scene carrying a blue backpack and was last seen wearing a black shirt and a blue sweater.
- Authorities say the younger aide was injured while trying to intervene and that investigators believe a scalpel or similar sharp instrument was used.
- School staff, school safety agents, NYPD officers from the 44th Precinct and EMS responded at once, and the Department of Education called the attack unacceptable and promised additional support to the school.
- The NYPD is actively investigating the incident, has asked the public for tips through Crime Stoppers and its tips account, and has made no arrests as the search for the suspect continues.
