Teen Snowmobiler Killed After Hitting Log Pile on Marked Trail in Warsaw, N.Y.

State police cite the crash as part of an unusually deadly Upstate New York snowmobiling season with at least seven fatalities in 2026.

Overview

  • Authorities identified the victim as 17-year-old Steven J. Gregorie of Varysburg.
  • State police say Gregorie lost control around 12:12 p.m. Sunday on a marked private trail in Warsaw and struck a pile of logs.
  • A 16-year-old riding behind him was ejected after hitting the same log pile, and his snowmobile came to rest on top of Gregorie, investigators reported.
  • Other riders called 911 and provided aid before Gregorie was taken by ambulance to Wyoming County Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
  • The Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office scheduled an autopsy as state police continue their investigation, with Advance Local reporting at least seven snowmobile deaths regionwide this year.
