Overview
- On Monday, Aug. 3, 18-year-old Dyllin Keys pleaded guilty to armed robbery and was sentenced to five years in prison for the Feb. 6 attack.
- The victim was a 12-year-old boy who was riding an e-bike on a trail near Greenfield Junior High when Keys and a 14-year-old approached him and Keys pointed a .22-caliber handgun, demanded the bike, and threatened to shoot.
- Gilbert police say the boy called 911 after the theft and officers found Keys riding the stolen e-bike about 34 minutes later, with dashcam and officer video showing the arrest and officers asking where the gun was.
- Keys was booked on multiple counts including armed robbery, aggravated robbery, aggravated assault, misconduct involving weapons, and underage liquor possession; the unnamed 14-year-old was arrested Feb. 17 and later pleaded delinquent to robbery and received probation.
- Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell praised the victim’s 911 call and called the sentence a clear message against terrorizing children, and the judge ordered Keys’ term to begin Aug. 3 with credit for 177 days already served.
