Teen Killed, Three Wounded in Shooting After Fairfield High Graduation

Investigators are interviewing hundreds of witnesses with local and federal agencies assisting the probe.

Overview

  • The shooting occurred Wednesday evening, June 3, in the Fairfield High School parking lot after a Sem Yeto High School commencement as families gathered for photos and roughly 1,000 people were on site.
  • An 18-year-old died at the scene and three others — an 11-year-old, a 20-year-old and a 25-year-old — were wounded and reported in stable condition while officials have withheld identities pending next-of-kin notification.
  • Fairfield police say the investigation is active with no suspect identified and no arrests made, and detectives are working with the Vacaville Police Department, Solano County Sheriff’s Office, the FBI and the ATF while interviewing hundreds of potential witnesses.
  • An internal police review found that a request by school officials for officer coverage was submitted but did not reach the department through established channels, a finding that has prompted changes to graduation security plans.
  • The school district moved or relocated upcoming ceremonies, increased law-enforcement staffing, and community members have organized memorials and a planned vigil as authorities urge anyone with information to call the Fairfield police tip line at 707-428-7345.
