Overview
- A speeding Hyundai Creta struck the Mane brothers’ scooter around 7:30–8:00 pm at the Nahar Amrit Shakti junction in Sakinaka, killing 15-year-old Pratik Mane and injuring his brother, police said.
- Officers traced the alleged 17-year-old driver using CCTV despite an incomplete registration number and presented him before the Juvenile Justice Board, which remanded him to Dongri until March 27.
- Police registered causing death by negligence and rash driving under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with Motor Vehicles Act sections for failure of duties after an accident and dangerous driving.
- A 22-year-old identified as Mohammed Khan has been booked for allegedly renting the SUV and handing it to the minor, and investigators said they will question the vehicle’s caretaker about the arrangement.
- Separately, a 28-year-old rider died when a dumper hit his scooter near Dahisar Check Naka on the Western Express Highway, and the truck driver is in custody as that probe continues.
