Teen Charged Over Attack on Amos Yee at Singapore Anime Event

The case shows Singapore’s zero tolerance for vigilante violence at public events.

Overview

  • Prosecutors on Monday charged 18-year-old Bosco Chun Ho Wang with public nuisance and voluntarily causing hurt over an attack on Amos Yee at Suntec City on Saturday.
  • Videos posted online show a cosplayer dressed as Jujutsu Kaisen character Yuji Itadori punching, kicking and tackling Yee outside the Doujin Market halls, and police said he suffered minor injuries.
  • The court offered Wang S$5,000 bail and set his next mention for June 2.
  • Event organizer Neo Tokyo Project said it canceled Yee’s ticket and is moving to bar him from future shows, stressing it does not condone violence.
  • If convicted, Wang faces up to three years in jail and fines under Singapore law, and the case echoes a 2015 assault on Yee that led to a three-week jail term for the attacker.
