Overview
- The white Mazda 3 was seen driving erratically inbound near Berwick around 10:15am before colliding with a Mercedes SUV that overturned east of the South Gippsland Highway.
- A member of the public restrained the 15-year-old alleged driver at the scene, and officers arrested him as up to seven other teens ran into nearby bushland.
- Police deployed the Air Wing to search the area, but the remaining occupants were not found.
- The Mercedes driver, who was alone in the vehicle, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Dandenong Hospital in stable condition.
- In a separate incident on the same freeway, a stolen Nissan Navara fled an attempted intercept and hit six vehicles near the Belgrave Hallam Road off-ramp before the driver and a passenger fled on foot.
