Teen Airlifted After 65-Foot Dovedale Fall as Family Reports Shoulder Surgery Pending

A coordinated volunteer–ambulance effort moved him off the crag for a rapid flight to Stoke’s major trauma unit.

Overview

  • The 19-year-old fell about 20 metres at Dovedale just before 2pm on Saturday and was found with serious injuries.
  • Derby Mountain Rescue worked with East Midlands Ambulance Service and EMAS HART to treat and transfer the casualty to DLRAA Helimed 54.
  • The air ambulance flew him to the Stoke trauma unit, where his mother says he is awaiting surgery for a shoulder injury.
  • As that response wrapped up, the rescue team was re-tasked to a separate missing-person report involving a walker last seen on Thorpe Cloud.
  • The walker was later contacted in Ilam and confirmed safe, and the volunteer rescue team noted its reliance on public donations to fund operations.
