Overview
- Hockey Canada, which announced Friday it had no deal for 2026, will not send a roster to the Dec. 26–31 invitational tournament in Davos, Switzerland.
- The federation said its long-term participation agreement ended after the 2025 event and a new contract was not finalized in time.
- The Spengler Cup organizers said they agreed with Hockey Canada to proceed without Team Canada because talks ran long and other teams needed firm commitments for planning.
- The 2026 field so far includes HC Davos, Frölunda HC, the SCL Tigers, and the returning U.S. Collegiate Selects, with two teams yet to be named.
- Canada’s absence breaks a run since 1984 and removes a showcase for non‑NHL Canadians, as the 16‑time champion typically draws players from European leagues along with the AHL, ECHL, and NCAA.
