TCS Says It Isn’t Chasing Layoff Target as It Works Through 2% Staff Reduction

The company presents the downsizing as case-by-case redeployment decisions within an estimated 2% adjustment.

Overview

  • HR head Sudeep Kunnumal said about half of the estimated 2% workforce reduction is complete, with roughly 1% executed so far.
  • He attributed an overall decline of about 20,000 employees, or roughly 3%, to a mix of voluntary and involuntary attrition.
  • Kunnumal said TCS will seek to redeploy trained employees and will release those who cannot be placed.
  • Pressed on whether involuntary exits would end at 1%, he said they would not, reiterating the 2% estimate.
  • Addressing new U.S. H‑1B rules, he noted TCS has localized its U.S. workforce with about 500 H‑1B travelers and expects its model to adapt quickly.
