TCG to Publish 'Women+ on the Edge of Democracy' Anthology
Organizers timed the release and a nationwide waiver of nonprofit performance fees to spark local civic conversations around the semiquincentennial and the 2026 midterm elections.
Overview
- The Flynn Center and Theatre Communications Group confirmed that the anthology of more than 30 short plays and monologues will be published by TCG with a Nov. 3, 2026 release and pre-orders opening in September.
- The collection gathers new work by acclaimed women+ playwrights, including Pulitzer, Tony, and Emmy winners and Olivier and Oscar nominees, responding to questions about the state of American democracy.
- Advance digital copies will be provided to theatres that sign on to present readings or performances this fall, and several regional companies such as MOXIE Theatre and Syracuse Stage have already committed to events.
- Performance rights will be waived for all nonprofit organizations that stage any of the plays free to the public between Oct. 23 and Nov. 3, 2026, creating a coordinated window for community gatherings before the midterm vote.
- A marathon world premiere of the full anthology will run at the Flynn in Burlington, Vermont, in October, and the project is backed by the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize and a team of named dramaturgs to support local productions and civic engagement.
