- Federal health agencies have linked a Salmonella Javiana outbreak to fresh jalapeños supplied by Coast Citrus Distributors and traced to a grower in Sinaloa, Mexico.
- The CDC and FDA say the outbreak has sickened 345 people across 27 states and led to 36 hospitalizations, with many patients reporting meals at Mexican‑style restaurants such as Chipotle and Qdoba.
- On Aug. 9 Taylor Fresh Foods (Taylor Farms) voluntarily recalled about 20 finished products containing those jalapeños, including salsas, guacamoles, dips, sandwiches and prepared meals sold at major chains.
- Recalled items were distributed to retail centers in roughly 25–26 states and sold at Walmart, Target, Kroger, Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, Hannaford and Stop & Shop; many packages have best‑if‑used‑by dates through Aug. 16, 2026.
