Tata Nexon Tops India’s FY26 SUV Sales as Sub-4m Segment Extends March Gains

Tata’s broad mix of petrol, diesel and EV trims continues to pull buyers.

Overview

  • In FY26, Tata Nexon led India’s SUV chart with 216,054 units and 32% year-on-year growth, with Hyundai Creta second at 201,921 units and Tata Punch third at 183,980 units.
  • March 2026 sub-4m SUV sales reached 122,710 units for an 8.87% rise year on year, with Tata Punch at 20,977 units and Nexon at 19,810 units topping the monthly model rankings.
  • By manufacturer in March, Tata Motors led the sub-compact SUV field at 40,787 units for 19.68% growth, while Maruti Suzuki posted 32,326 units, Hyundai 17,625, and Kia slipped to 12,071 as Syros volumes fell.
  • FY26 model shifts showed mixed fortunes as Maruti Suzuki Brezza declined to 180,104 units, down 5% year on year, while Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder surged 65% to 99,890 units to enter the top tier.
  • The sub-4m SUV class, which fits India’s small-car tax band, sells on price, features and fuel-choice flexibility, so fresh facelifts or EV entries can quickly move monthly rankings even when full-year leaders hold steady.
