Tata Launches Harrier and Safari Petrol With New 1.5-Litre Turbo From Rs 12.89 Lakh

The move targets petrol-first buyers with an in-house 1.5-litre turbo engine, aggressive entry prices, five-star Bharat NCAP safety.

Overview

  • Both SUVs adopt Tata’s in-house 1.5-litre Hyperion/TGDi turbo-petrol delivering about 170 hp and 280 Nm, paired with a 6-speed manual or Aisin 6-speed automatic, driving the front wheels.
  • Petrol-exclusive top trims — Harrier Fearless Ultra and Safari Accomplished Ultra — add a 14.5-inch Samsung Neo QLED touchscreen, Dolby Atmos audio, built-in dual dashcams, front and rear camera washers, and VisionSync memory ORVMs.
  • All petrol variants carry a five-star Bharat NCAP rating, complementing features such as an expanded ADAS suite and a comprehensive safety kit across the range.
  • Entry prices undercut the diesel equivalents by roughly Rs 1.1–1.4 lakh, with Harrier petrol spanning Rs 12.89–24.69 lakh and Safari petrol Rs 13.29–25.19 lakh ex-showroom; Safari also offers 6- and 7-seat layouts in select trims.
  • Tata is promoting high efficiency from the new engine, highlighting an India Book of Records run for maximum fuel economy by a petrol manual SUV over 12 hours with the Harrier.
