Overview
- The victim, identified as Kalaiyarasi, was a first-year college student from Meenambalpuram in Sellur, according to police.
- After viewing a video titled about using venkaaram to slim the body, she purchased borax from a native medicine shop on Keezhamasi Street on January 16.
- She consumed the substance on January 17 and soon suffered vomiting and diarrhoea, receiving initial treatment at a private hospital in Munisalai.
- Her condition worsened later that evening, and she was rushed to Government Rajaji Hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival around 11 pm.
- A post-mortem was conducted and the body handed to her family, and Sellur police have registered a case and opened an investigation.
