Overview
- All forest divisions across the state are being surveyed over Feb. 14–15 under a uniform Forest Department protocol.
- Each division will cover at least 25 locations using 2 km line transects with both direct counts and acoustic detection.
- In the central region, Tiruchi will field about 20 teams across 20 sites during 6–10 a.m. and 4–5 p.m. with nocturnal counts included, while Pudukottai will survey 25 sites across five ranges.
- Participants include experienced birdwatchers, trained volunteers, NGOs, students, photographers, and Forest Department staff, with advance registration via a QR code.
- The operation builds on the March 2025 census that recorded 401 species across 1,093 locations with an estimated 2.3 lakh birds statewide.
