Tamil Nadu Flags Off 40 Vehicles to Strengthen Medical Oversight

The fleet is meant to enforce prenatal and clinical laws, speed investigations into fake doctors, support emergency medical relief.

Overview

  • The 40 vehicles were flagged off at the State Secretariat on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, and were procured for Rs 2.90 crore for the Directorate of Medical and Rural Health Services.
  • The government says the fleet will enforce the PCPNDT Act and the state clinical-establishments law by inspecting hospitals and ultrasound scan centres for legal compliance.
  • Officials said the vehicles will fast-track probes into quacks and fake doctors and will let regulators take quicker action when violations are found.
  • At the handover, Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay gave keys to drivers, briefly drove one vehicle inside the Secretariat, and senior officials including the health minister attended the event.
  • The rollout coincided with the CM’s meetings with industry and farmer delegations, a move officials framed as part of a wider push to boost governance, patient care and emergency readiness across the state.
