Talay Riley Killed in East London Stabbing

The Met’s Specialist Crime Command is leading a fast-moving murder probe that is focused on gathering CCTV and witness accounts to build the case.

  • Police found Mark Yinka Orabiyi, known as Talay Riley, with multiple stab wounds in a garden in Silvertown and he was pronounced dead after emergency services attended on Friday, June 5.
  • A second man in his twenties was also injured and taken to hospital with wounds that police say are not believed to be life-threatening.
  • Homicide detectives arrested three people near the scene; two suspects, a 24-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman, were released with no further action and a 27-year-old man was released on bail while enquiries continue.
  • Detective Chief Inspector Joanna Yorke has appealed for anyone in the area that morning to contact police and to hand over CCTV, dashcam or mobile footage that could help the investigation.
  • Riley was a Grammy-winning songwriter who wrote for artists including Khalid, Dua Lipa and H.E.R., and his death has prompted widespread tributes from family and peers as the music world awaits further police findings.
