Take-Two Forces Shutdown of GTA V Modding Platform Rage:MP

The company is consolidating sanctioned multiplayer modding on its owned FiveM service, a move that signals tighter control over unofficial servers.

Overview

  • Rage:MP, which confirmed Tuesday that it received a cease-and-desist from Take-Two, said it will begin a structured shutdown and will assist server owners with migration.
  • The platform will remove its public server listing on June 1, 2026, and end all support and shut down its client, server toolkit, and backend on August 31, 2026.
  • Take-Two acquired FiveM operator Cfx.re in 2023 and says FiveM is the only authorized third-party platform under Rockstar’s Platform License Agreement, which Take-Two cited in forcing the change.
  • Rage:MP has already stopped public access to its server toolkit and is asking current server operators to migrate to FiveM as soon as possible to avoid data loss or service interruption.
  • The action consolidates control of GTA V modded multiplayer under a company-owned service and risks the disappearance of some independent servers and bespoke community content if operators do not move.
