Taiwan Reports 26 Chinese Aircraft and Six PLAN Vessels Operating Around Taiwan
Taipei says the flights reflect coordinated PLA air–sea training, prompting a defensive response.
Overview
- Taiwan’s defense ministry says 26 PLA aircraft were detected up to 6 a.m. on Jan. 24, with 18 crossing the Taiwan Strait’s median line into the northern, central and southwestern ADIZ.
- Six People’s Liberation Army Navy vessels were reported operating around Taiwan during the same period.
- On Jan. 23 from 10:40 a.m., Taiwan counted 23 PLA sorties, including J-10 fighters, H-6K bombers and a KJ-500, with 17 crossing the median line during joint training with naval units.
- Earlier on Jan. 23, the ministry reported 11 sorties and five PLAN vessels up to 6 a.m., with nine aircraft crossing the median line into Taiwan’s ADIZ.
- Taiwan says its armed forces monitored the operations and responded, and it separately condemned a Jan. 18 Chinese surveillance drone that approached the Pratas Islands and briefly entered territorial airspace.
