Overview
- The 170-metre structure is three metres wide with a maximum 5% gradient, replacing the need to carry bikes up 55 stairs on the bridge’s north side.
- The ramp completes a continuous north–south bike route connecting to the CBD via Kent Street, Sydney’s east via the Oxford Street path, and the west via the Anzac Bridge.
- Transport for NSW reports an average of 1,221 daily crossings in 2025 and forecasts usage to roughly double following the opening.
- Design features include about 130,000 granite pavers forming an Aboriginal artwork by Jason Wing and Maddie Gibbs, bronze balustrades of the Opera House alloy type, and heritage bridge grey paint.
- Construction took about 13 months and involved relocating an eight-metre parapet section, with the existing stairs remaining open and a security guard on site to limit the ramp to cyclists.
