Overview
- The standoff began Tuesday afternoon when a woman called Houston Police Department victim services saying she may have been held against her will inside a north Houston apartment.
- Officers first encountered occupants who denied others were inside, then removed the victim and the suspect’s mother from the unit before attempting loudspeaker orders to the suspect.
- Because the man had threatened the woman with a gun in prior reports and had an outstanding felony warrant for family-violence strangulation, HPD summoned SWAT to the scene.
- SWAT broke a window and flew a drone into the apartment to locate the sleeping suspect; he became combative when woken, officers used a taser, and he was hospitalized for taser-related injuries and is expected to recover.
- The suspect is being held on the existing warrant while investigators coordinate with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office to decide on any additional charges, and officials say no one else was injured.
