Overview
- A vehicle pulled onto the right shoulder of eastbound U.S. Highway 50 with a flat tire and its friends parked behind to help when an SUV drifted onto the shoulder and struck the group around 11:30 p.m.
- One man was killed and three others were hurt, with one suffering major injuries and two sustaining minor injuries who were not taken to hospital.
- The driver of the SUV remained at the scene and cooperated with officers and the California Highway Patrol said DUI is not suspected.
- Caltrans temporarily closed all eastbound lanes of Highway 50 and the nearby 34th Street offramp and X Street onramp while emergency crews responded and CHP logged the collision.
