Overview
- A police pursuit that began in Preston ended with a tactical stop on Brockholes Brow after a red Ford Fiesta failed to stop, and officers detained the driver and three passengers following the intervention on Sunday, June 21.
- The driver, a 20-year-old man from Chorley, pointed what appeared to be a handgun at officers and was searched; the imitation weapon was later confirmed to be a BB gun and two knives were recovered on him.
- During follow-up enquiries, searches at a property on Kirkstall Close in Chorley uncovered what is thought to be a grenade, prompting Explosive Ordnance Disposal teams to attend and nearby homes to be evacuated as a precaution.
- Four people — the driver and three passengers, all in their 20s — remain in custody on suspicion of offences including possession of a firearm or offensive weapons, failing to stop and failing to provide a breath test, and part of Brockholes Brow was closed overnight for enquiries.
- Lancashire Police say there is not thought to be any risk to the public at this time, the investigation and EOD assessment are ongoing, and officers have asked anyone with information or footage to call 101 quoting log 1457 of June 21.
