Suspect Held After Gun Attack on Haryana MLA’s Office as Police Cite Thailand Link

The arrest points to cross-border organised-crime ties and raises fresh pressure on Haryana’s police to make further arrests.

Overview

  • The attack occurred in the early hours of Saturday when two masked men on a motorcycle fired several rounds at Congress MLA Balram Dangi’s Meham office; CCTV captured the shooting and no one was injured.
  • Rohtak police say they arrested Aman (Aman Kumar) after a checkpoint near Bainsi village led to an exchange of fire in which both sides fired three rounds and Aman was wounded in the leg and taken to PGIMS Rohtak.
  • Officers recovered a country-made pistol, the motorcycle used in the incident and four empty cartridges, and have registered cases under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act while eight special Crime Branch teams probe the case.
  • Police say preliminary probes link the arrested man to a fugitive gangster who left India for Thailand in July 2025 and faces about 30 cases, and they have identified a second shooter whom teams are seeking to arrest.
  • The episode has prompted sharp political criticism from former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, who called it proof of deteriorating law and order and demanded special security for the MLA and faster action by the state government.
