Overview
- Authorities say Officers Pradeep Tamang, 25, and Master Police Officer David Reed were shot after being invited into a Holiday Inn Express room linked to a reported fraudulent credit card, and one officer returned fire, striking the suspect.
- Tamang died at the hospital, and Reed remains in critical but stable condition following surgery, according to Gwinnett County police.
- The suspect, Kevin Andrews, 35, was treated for non-life-threatening wounds, released to custody, and booked into the Gwinnett County Jail on charges including malice murder, felony murder, two counts of aggravated assault on a public safety officer, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
- Jail records show Andrews had his first court appearance on Feb. 2, was appointed counsel, and was denied bond as the Georgia Bureau of Investigation continues its probe prior to review by the Gwinnett County district attorney.
- A public Celebration of Life for Tamang is scheduled for Feb. 7 at 12Stone Church in Lawrenceville, and a police foundation fundraiser is supporting both officers’ families.
