Overview
- An Armaguard cash van was held up at a Hervey Bay shopping centre about 6:30am Tuesday when a man threatened a security officer with a firearm.
- Police say a struggle followed and the security officer fired one shot with no injuries reported.
- The man fled in an orange Ford Ranger with a significant amount of cash and officers stopped the vehicle about an hour later on Craignish Road, roughly 10 kilometres away.
- The suspect was taken into custody as police set up crime scenes at the shopping centre and at the interception site, with the Maryborough Criminal Investigation Branch leading inquiries.
- Police had not laid charges at the time of reporting, and Armaguard’s heavily fortified cash vans are rarely targeted in robberies.
