Surya Kiran Jets Open Two-Day Sukhna Lake Air Show in Chandigarh

The event doubles as a public showcase for IAF careers.

Overview

  • The Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team, which flew over Chandigarh’s Sukhna Lake on Friday, drew large crowds and will stage a second show on Saturday.
  • Nine Hawk Mk-132 jets executed loops, barrel rolls, inverted flight and smoke-trail shapes like the DNA and Y formations before regrouping for an aerial salute.
  • Officials closed the lake area, limited entry to 10,000 ticketed visitors at ₹100, ran CTU shuttle buses, barred private cars, and deployed NDRF boats with more than 1,300 police for safety.
  • The week’s tour began Wednesday in Hamirpur with Himachal Pradesh’s first Air Force air show at Sainik School Sujanpur Tira, where a special formation honored Wing Commander Namansh Syal.
  • Organizers pitched the displays to spark interest in Air Force careers, continuing a long SKAT tradition of public outreach that included a Chandigarh appearance in September 2025.
