Survey Finds Most German Drivers Paid More for Car Insurance in 2025

Insurers point to rising spare-part and repair costs, and industry figures indicate the motor line has moved back into the black.

Overview

  • According to a Verivox-commissioned poll, 60.3% of policyholders reported higher premiums year over year across liability, partial and full comprehensive cover.
  • A further 22.3% saw no expected no-claims discount despite incident-free driving, resulting in an effective price increase.
  • Full comprehensive customers were most affected, with 65.2% reporting increases compared with 57.2% in partial comprehensive and 52.1% in liability.
  • Despite the higher bills, 78.2% of affected customers kept their contracts unchanged, while 10.0% switched providers.
  • The online survey of 1,026 car owners was conducted by Innofact in January 2026, and the GDV reports the motor segment returned to profit in 2025.
