Supermarket Basket Hits Up to ARS 950,000 in February, With Provincial Gap Above ARS 115,000

Higher Patagonian salaries lessen the burden even as oil, yogurt and eggs post the steepest increases.

Overview

  • Analytica’s February reading shows a family’s supermarket basket ranged from roughly ARS 829,000 to ARS 950,000, with month-on-month gains between 1.2% and 2.6% across all provinces.
  • Patagonia remained the priciest region, led by Santa Cruz at ARS 944,603, while Misiones was among the lowest at ARS 828,807, underscoring price dispersion exceeding ARS 115,000.
  • The sharpest provincial rises were in Formosa (+2.6%), Catamarca (+2.4%) and La Pampa (+2.3%); Corrientes (+0.6%) and San Juan (+0.4%) saw the smallest moves.
  • Sunflower oil climbed 2%–4% in most provinces, drinkable yogurt rose 3%–6% with spikes in Santa Cruz (+9.3%) and Tierra del Fuego (+15%), and a dozen eggs increased above 4% nationwide, topping 10% in northern provinces.
  • Despite higher absolute prices in the south, Analytica estimates the basket equals 15.6% of two average salaries in Patagonia versus 29.1% in the NEA; a separate Rosario barrio survey put monthly food at ARS 1,212,216.76 and the Total Basic Basket at ARS 3,565,343.41, noting uneven pricing between stores.
