Super GT Postpones 2026 Sepang Round Over Security Concerns and Soaring Costs

Geopolitical risk made the overseas logistics too fragile to execute.

Overview

  • GTA and promoter HARO, which issued a joint statement Wednesday, postponed the June 19–21 Sepang 300km at Malaysia’s Sepang International Circuit, the series’ only race outside Japan.
  • Organizers cited the worsening Middle East situation that created operational hurdles along with steep jumps in international freight and air travel costs.
  • Tickets remain valid for a new date, with an automatic pre-race grid-walk upgrade if holders keep their booking until May 1, 2026, while refund requests must be filed by April 30, 2026.
  • A 2026 reschedule appears unlikely because teams ship cars and equipment from Japan by sea weeks in advance, which leaves little room to move an overseas round late in the calendar.
  • If no replacement is added, the season would drop to seven races, the fewest since 2004, and sources indicate the three-year Malaysia deal could be extended by one year.
