Super Bowl Halftime Performer Convicted of Resisting an Officer

Sentencing follows on June 1 with potential jail time up to six months.

Overview

  • Chief Judge Juana Marine-Lombard found Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu guilty of misdemeanor resisting an officer and not guilty of disturbing the peace in Orleans Criminal District Court.
  • Nantambu had field credentials during Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl LIX show, but he climbed a prop car, raised a Sudanese flag reading “Sudan and Free Gaza,” then ran as officers ordered him to stop.
  • After a months-long investigation, authorities obtained a warrant, and Nantambu later surrendered and was booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center.
  • Under Louisiana law, the conviction carries a possible $500 fine and up to six months in jail, and the NFL has also banned him for life from all league events.
  • In a separate Miami case, Nantambu is listed as the shooting victim in charges against former NFL player Antonio Brown, whose trial is set for January 2027.
