Sunshine Coast Police Shooting Suspect Charged, Remanded

Oversight bodies have opened reviews after a rapid succession of police shootings across Queensland and NSW.

Overview

  • Dominic Reece Bryham, 32, faced court on a dozen charges including serious assault of police while armed, unlawful possession of a weapon, dangerous driving and drug possession.
  • Bryham was remanded in custody after a brief Maroochydore Magistrates Court appearance and is due back in court on March 30.
  • Police allege he crashed at Sippy Downs, switched vehicles, then approached officers with a gun on Nambour Connection Road in Woombye, where he was shot and taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.
  • The Sunshine Coast and Tingalpa shootings are being investigated by the Ethical Standards Command with Crime and Corruption Commission oversight.
  • In a separate Tingalpa case, police say a 21-year-old man was shot dead during a welfare check after alleged knife threats, and a senior constable sustained a minor ear graze from a projectile; NSW police also reported fatal Potts Point and non-fatal Newcastle shootings within the same period.
