Sunedu Reactivates Licenciamiento Process for Universidad Inca Garcilaso de la Vega

The regulator said court rulings and an administrative ratification removed legal uncertainty so a full technical review against national quality standards can proceed.

Overview

  • Sunedu formally lifted the administrative suspension on the UIGV licenciamiento file by Resolution N.° 0017-2026 on 30 April 2026, restarting the institutional evaluation process.
  • The restart follows a string of judicial decisions that ended disputes over university representation, including the Tribunal Constitucional's Sentencia 207/2025 and an Indecopi ratification of the current administrator.
  • The university originally lost its institutional license in 2019 after Sunedu found it failed 31 of 55 Condiciones Básicas de Calidad indicators covering governance, academics and infrastructure.
  • Sunedu emphasized the reactivation is procedural only and does not grant automatic relicensing; UIGV must now prove compliance with all eight CBC areas through document review, inspections and technical committees.
  • The decision was approved by qualified majority in Sunedu's Council with two abstentions, and regulators warned they will keep supervising service continuity because the outcome will directly affect students, faculty and program viability.
