Overview
- Sundance will base its 2027 festival in a roughly two-square-mile Boulder area and says venue work and logistics scheduled over the past year and a half are on track for January.
- The University of Colorado Boulder's Macky Auditorium has been retrofitted by Dolby with 240 speakers and will host the festival’s largest-ever Sundance screen as the new premiere venue.
- Each of the four main competition sections—U.S. Dramatic, World Cinema Dramatic, U.S. Documentary, and World Cinema Documentary—will expand to 12 films, and side sections such as Premieres, NEXT, and New Frontier FLUX will return with larger slates.
- Sundance will host the International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI) as a juried awards partner and will award automatic Oscar International Feature Film qualification to its World Cinema Grand Jury Prize winners.
- Boulder and festival officials have created a short-term rental license program to add thousands of lodging options and point to more than 30 direct international flight routes to Denver to support expected attendees.
