Overview
- A sudden, intense rainstorm struck Hyderabad on Tuesday evening, dumping roughly 9–13 cm in parts of the city and triggering rapid flash flooding across the IT corridor.
- Two people — an auto-rickshaw driver and a 15-year-old student — were confirmed killed after stepping into water touched by a fallen live power line in Bandlaguda.
- The downpour coincided with peak office commute hours and stalled traffic for hours across Madhapur, Hitec City, Gachibowli, Kondapur and Raidurg, stranding thousands of commuters.
- HYDRAA, GHMC, CMC and traffic police deployed teams to clear uprooted trees, pump out water and manually regulate junctions after automatic signals were switched off at some points.
- Officials have acknowledged gaps in monsoon preparedness — incomplete de-silting, clogged drains, and ongoing road and utility works — and have begun inspections as the IMD warns of continued unstable monsoon spells.
