Overview
- Federal safety records posted in mid-July show Subaru initiated recall WRH-26 after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration flagged incorrect rear-axle weight figures on certification labels.
- The recall covers 541,237 vehicles: 2019–2026 Ascent (383,800), 2025–2026 Forester (49,849), 2025–2026 Forester Hybrid (77,504) and 2026 Crosstrek Hybrid (29,297).
- Subaru says no U.S. crashes or injuries have been reported and that no mechanical repairs are needed because the fix is a corrected certification label.
- Affected owners will get two mailings beginning in late August with an initial alert and later a corrective label that can be applied by the owner or installed free at a dealer.
- GAWR, the gross axle weight rating, is the maximum weight an axle can carry and an incorrect printed GAWR could cause drivers to unintentionally overload the rear axle; owners can check their VIN on NHTSA or Subaru recall lookup tools or call Subaru customer service for details.
