STT GDC and Hyosung Open 30 MW Hyperscale Data Centre in Seoul

An in-city site will supply high-density AI and cloud capacity with redundant power feeds, Uptime Institute Tier III design, energy-efficiency targets, local power expertise.

Overview

  • Hyosung-STT GDC launched STT Seoul 1 on Tuesday, opening a 30 MW facility with about 40,000 m2 of gross floor area in Gasan-dong, Geumcheon-gu, Seoul.
  • The joint venture that developed and will operate the site was formed in 2021 with STT GDC holding 60% and Hyosung Heavy Industries holding 40%.
  • STT Seoul 1 achieved Uptime Institute Tier III Certification of Design Documents and features dual 22.9kV redundant power feeds, UPS and generators rated to run up to 24 hours without refuelling.
  • Hyosung will supply power equipment and energy-efficiency technologies while Hyosung ITX will integrate IT operations, traffic optimisation and security management for AI and cloud workloads.
  • The launch brings dense in-city capacity to Seoul where power limits have pushed many projects to the suburbs, and it positions the partners to capture rapid market growth projected through 2031.
