Strong Winds Close Humber Bridge to High-Sided and Vulnerable Vehicles

National Highways set a long diversion via the A180–M180–M18–M62A63 and urged wind‑susceptible drivers to postpone trips.

Overview

  • National Highways shut the A15 crossing to tall and wind‑susceptible vehicles in both directions on Tuesday morning.
  • A signed diversion routes northbound traffic via the A180 to the M180, then the M18 to the M62 and onto the A63, with the reverse for southbound journeys.
  • The move follows a Met Office yellow warning for strong winds with rain, sleet and snow possible, and forecasts of gusts around 35 mph in the East Riding.
  • Prohibited vehicles include articulated and high‑sided HGVs, car transporters, tippers, vehicles towing trailers or caravans, motorhomes, motorcycles and other vulnerable types.
  • Restrictions will remain until conditions improve, with National Highways advising susceptible drivers to delay travel and a 30 mph limit applying to other traffic on the bridge.
