Streets and Sidewalks Around Grant Park Closed Ahead of Lollapalooza

Timed for multiweek setup and teardown, the closures will reroute traffic, limit park amenities, push organizers to urge transit use.

Overview

  • Closures are in effect ahead of Lollapalooza, which runs Thursday, July 30 through Sunday, August 2, to allow multiweek staging, operations and teardown for the four-day festival.
  • Major vehicle closures include long-running blocks such as Balbo (Columbus to DuSable Lake Shore Drive: July 15–Aug. 9) and Jackson (Columbus to DuSable Lake Shore Drive: July 21–Aug. 8) with additional sections closed from July 27 through Aug. 3.
  • Multiple sidewalks will be shut on a staggered schedule to support vendor and construction access, including Michigan (Jackson to 11th St. Bridge: July 28–Aug. 2) and Balbo (both sides from Columbus to DuSable Lake Shore Drive: July 15–Aug. 9).
  • Grant Park amenities are temporarily affected: the dog park closed July 15 and is set to reopen Aug. 8 with a temporary dog park provided near the skate park, and tennis and pickleball courts closed after 11 p.m. on July 26 with a planned reopen on Aug. 4 at 6 a.m.
  • City officials and festival organizers strongly recommend using CTA rail stops that serve Grant Park, biking to the grounds or the complimentary bike valet at Balbo and Michigan, and expect heavier traffic and longer downtown commutes during the closures.
