Stormgate Multiplayer Going Offline This Month After Server Provider’s AI Pivot

Online play can return only after Frost Giant secures a new hosting partner.

Overview

  • Frost Giant told players on Discord that Stormgate’s online modes will go down at the end of April and that a patch will let the RTS run offline.
  • Hathora, the game’s server orchestration provider, was acquired by Fireworks AI and is ending game support, with service for gaming customers continuing only through May 5, 2026.
  • Fireworks AI plans to repurpose Hathora’s team and infrastructure for compute orchestration for AI inference, which pulls resources away from hosting live multiplayer games.
  • Hathora named Nitrado’s GameFabric as its exclusive transition partner for migrations, and Frost Giant has not said it will use that path to keep Stormgate online.
  • Stormgate was built by former Blizzard leads and funded by fans through Kickstarter, and the shutdown highlights how third‑party server changes can instantly disrupt smaller online games.
