Storm Alerts in Argentina and Heat-Hail Risk in Mexico as Galicia Stays Dry

Forecasters link the hazards to a blocking pattern expected to sustain unusual heat through the week.

Overview

  • Argentina’s national weather service, which issued orange and yellow alerts Monday, warns the east of Río Negro could see locally severe storms with 40–50 mm of rain, frequent lightning, hail, and wind gusts near 90 km/h.
  • Yellow alerts extend over parts of Buenos Aires, Río Negro, Chubut, La Pampa, Córdoba, La Rioja, Catamarca, Tucumán, and Salta with 30–50 mm of rain and gusts up to 80 km/h, and separate rain alerts cover western Santa Cruz with a chance of snow at higher elevations.
  • SMN forecasters say an atmospheric blocking pattern will keep warmth, humidity, strong winds, and on-and-off showers through Friday, with Buenos Aires turning stormy Monday before a brief lull and another round of instability late week.
  • Mexico’s 96‑hour outlook opens Semana Santa with chubascos, strong thunderstorms, possible hail and even mountain sleet in the east and south, while large areas stay very hot at 35–40 °C and pockets in Michoacán and Guerrero reach about 45 °C.
  • In Spain’s Galicia, local forecasts based on AEMET data keep Monday dry and sunny but windy, with northeast gusts near 47–49 km/h and highs around 20–23 °C in towns such as Barro, Meis, Mondariz, and O Rosal.
