Overview
- A stolen telehandler was driven into the Nationwide branch on Ramsey High Street and used to remove the cash machine just after 3am on Tuesday, June 16.
- CCTV footage shows the telehandler extending its crane to smash the wall, suspects in balaclavas lifting the ATM into a blue truck, a red sports car following and a white van nearby, with the digger later abandoned in the street.
- Cambridgeshire Police have opened an active investigation, asked the public for witness reports and video evidence and have made no public arrests so far.
- Nationwide confirmed the raid, said it is arranging to reopen the Ramsey branch and replace the ATM in the coming days, and advised customers to use nearby branches for face-to-face service.
- Police warned the theft fits a wider pattern of ram-raid attacks using heavy machinery and said public footage and tips are vital to identify the vehicles and people involved so further offences can be prevented.
