Stolen SUV Drives Across Marblehead High Field and Is Recovered Submerged

Police are treating the incidents as a criminal matter with intent to file charges.

Overview

  • Early Wednesday morning Marblehead officers found marks on Piper Football Field and a damaged access gate that investigators say show two vehicles drove across the turf.
  • Around 11:10 a.m. police responded to Grace Oliver’s Beach and located an unoccupied vehicle that matched one described at the field; the car appeared to be a red SUV and was reported stolen.
  • The Marblehead Harbormaster and the Salem Police Dive Team assisted in recovering the submerged vehicle, which was towed from the water for further investigation.
  • Marblehead Police say they believe the two incidents are connected, no arrests have been made, and they intend to issue charges as the probe continues.
